Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Feb. 14, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 162 calls from Feb. 1 to 7. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls and two fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Feb. 1

•South State Parkway, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - Employees of a restaurant stated that a vehicle was in the drive-thru and refusing to move. The vehicle left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Long Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle that had pulled onto an access road and the driver exited. It was determined the subject was geocaching.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bonny Woods Circle, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle pulled into her driveway and then left a short time after. The vehicle then pulled into multiple neighbors' driveways. Deputies located the vehicle and determined the driver was looking for an address of a friend's residence.

•East River Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked underneath the bridge at the water treatment plant during the late hours of the night. The occupants were advised and left without incident.

Sunday, Feb. 2

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. The vehicle struck multiple mailboxes in the area. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, drunk driving - Following the investigation of the above accident, deputies arrested a 27-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and numerous traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Grand Island Boulevard, unknown trouble - A complainant stated that strange noises were coming from the boiler room in the motel he operated. Deputies checked and advised the complainant to contact a maintenance person.

Monday, Feb. 3

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject was loitering on the premise of a restaurant and appeared to have a hospital bracelet on. Deputies located the subject and it was determined he was awaiting the bus.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

Tuesday, Feb. 4

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she heard loud bangs on the side of her residence as if someone was attempting to break in during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Waterford Park, larceny - Numerous neighbors reported that sometime during the night, someone entered their unlocked vehicles and stole various items.

•Riverview Court, larceny - Numerous neighbors reported that, sometime during the night, someone entered their unlocked vehicles and stole various items.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 28-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions.

•Love Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check on a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Park Lane, suspicious person/marijuana arrest - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked at the dead end of Park Lane and appeared to be occupied by several subjects. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and arrested a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana and a traffic infraction. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Staley Road, deer stuck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Feb. 5

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident where the driver fled the scene. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bush Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident where one driver fled the scene prior to the arrival of patrol. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Long Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Carl Road, disorderly person - A complainant stated that he was having a dispute with a neighbor and it became a loud verbal argument. All parties were advised.

Thursday, Feb. 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, her wallet was stolen by an unknown person.

•Bedell Road, refer to patrol - A complainant stated it looked like there was a fire on the bicycle path behind his apartment building. Deputies checked and determined the orange glow to be from a floodlight.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Feb. 7

•Ransom Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied suspicious vehicle outside of a closed business during the late hours of the night. The premises were checked and nothing appeared out of order.

•Carl Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Ransom Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check on a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Waterford Park, animal complaint - A complainant stated there is a vicious dog that lives in the neighborhood and attacks other dogs in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Alvin Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.
