Town of Niagara Police Blotter for Feb. 6, 2014

The following is a sampling of the 164 calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.

Monday, Jan. 27

•Injury accident, Lockport Road. Driver northbound on Haseley Drive approaching Lockport Road slid in snow as was unable to stop, striking a vehicle westbound on Lockport Road. Transported to Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center were driver (neck pain) and two occupants (observation) of the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle (chest pain) was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

•Utility, 9700 block of Lockport Road. While on routine patrol, officer noticed a water main break and notified the Water Department.

•Assist citizen, 7100 block and 8100 block of Porter Road. In the first incident, a citizen complained that state DOT plows were piling snow on the shoulder of the road. The second incident was a landlord/tenant issue about snow removal. Patrol advised contacting DOT and advised the landlord/tenant issue was a civil matter.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

•8200 block of Colonial Drive, suspicious footprints. Patrol received a report of suspicious footprints leading up to windows of a residence. Patrol found that someone had been in the area overnight, walking to every house between Donna Drive and Garlow Road on Colonial and into Miller Road. Footprints led up to windows on each residence and to vehicles parked in driveways.

•Fire, 3500 block of Miller Road. Patrols and crews from Niagara Active and Upper Mountain volunteer fire departments responded. Homeowner stated that an employee from a business was attempting to thaw the water meter located in the garage when sparks from the heater apparatus apparently set the wall area on fire.

•False alarm, 3400 block of Tuscarora Road. Patrol responded for a fire alarm activation. Resident stated she burned food.

•Injured animal, 3300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard. Patrol checked the area for an injured dog that was struck by a snowplow. Dog could not be found.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

•Shoplifting, 4200 block of Military Road. Business reported a balding male conceal a box of hair dye in his jacket and leave the store. Complainant said he tapped on the window of the vehicle the suspect entered and the man waved, smiled and drove away. No valid plate number could be matched to the gray van.

•Shoplifting, 6000 block of Porter Road. A 33-year-old John Avenue man was arrested for leaving a business without paying for a utility pump valued at $89. The man fled, but was found by patrol. The merchandise was located near a fence in a fast food parking lot.

•Aid assist, Nesbit Drive and Miller Road. Patrol assisted Lewiston Police with an accident on the dead end at Nesbit. Intoxicated driver drove off the road and into the tree line.

Thursday, Jan. 30

•Theft of services, 1600 block of Military Road. Business reported that a woman driving a white van with Ontario plates came in for packages held since November in a rented mailbox. She told the manager she had to get her credit card from the vehicle to pay the $190 bill, took the packages to the van and drove away. Border Patrol was notified.

•Traffic chase, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Cayuga Village. Patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, turn into Cayuga Village and almost strike an oncoming vehicle. When pursued the vehicle made a U-turn and went southbound on 89th Street. Patrols checking the area found the vehicle with heavy front-end damage from striking a utility pole in the 1100 block of 90th Street. A woman on the scene was screaming and said someone stole the car and crashed it, changed her story, and said the driver was her current boyfriend who was going to Cayuga Village with a gun to threaten her ex-boyfriend.

Friday, Jan. 31

•Marijuana arrest, Porter Road at I-190. A 19-year-old Orleans Avenue man was arrested for speeding an d possession of marijuana after being stopped for traveling at speeds of 56 and 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. A strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle and he was found to be in possession of approximately 14 grams of marijuana.

•EMS, 500 block of B Street. Rural Metro Ambulance on the scene for a 47-year-old who had fallen out of bed.

Saturday, Feb. 1

•False alarm, 2400 block of Military Road. Patrol checked building with keyholder. Apparently a cat knocked a fish tank to the floor. No sign of entry found.

•Larceny, 700 block of B Street. Woman reported that while her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend were in the house her engagement ring went missing. She found a check made out in her daughters name from a jewelry store and was able to buy her ring back.

•Driving while intoxicated, Witmer Road and Hyde Park Boulevard. A 62-year-old Lockport man was arrested for DWI after he was stopped for crossing over the center line several times, including while making a turn, then driving up on the curb before bringing the vehicle to a stop. The man became irate, refused to cooperate with the officer and tried to walk away. A male passenger also was found with a small amount of marijuana.

•Traffic tickets, Military Road, Laur Road, and Tuscarora Road. Patrol issued tickets in 3 separate incidents for infractions including driving with a cracked windshield, failure to stop at a stop sign, no plate lamps and no insurance.

Sunday, Feb. 2

•Aid assist, Niagara Falls Boulevard. Patrol assisted Niagara Falls Police with a large fight in the drive-through of a fast food restaurant.

•Aid assist, Porter and Packard roads. Patrol assisted State Police with a male driver passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. After being awoken, the driver was arrested for DWI.

•Shoplifting, 1500 block of Military Road. A 50-year-old Niagara Road resident was arrested for leaving the store without paying for $86.58 worth of groceries.

Monday, Feb. 3

•Aid assist, Saunders Settlement Road. Patrol assisted Niagara County Sheriff's Office with a slow speed vehicle westbound from Colonial Village; elderly female driver.

•Aid assist, Panama Street. Patrol assisted State Police with a traffic stop. Three males were taken into custody on drug charges.

•Civil matter, 7200 block of St. Joseph Road. Complainant reported his girlfriend removed all of her property and some of is from their residence, left a note stating she was leaving him and that all of his utilities had been shut off.

•Traffic tickets, Military Road and Porter-Packard roads. Patrol issued tickets for six separate incidents, with charges including no seatbelt, suspended registration for insurance lap, failure to notify DMV for an address change, speeding, loud muffler, talking on a cell phone, and failure to reduce speed approaching an intersection where a light was changing and going through a red light.
