While most of America watched Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show with Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers, a select group of alternative rock fans in the Buffalo area were given a different music selection.

Starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, alternative rock fans crowded into The Cove Seafood and Banquets to see New Politics and Magic Man rock the stage during the "Big Game bash."  The two up-and-coming bands were brought to Buffalo by alternative radio station 107.7 WLKK to perform for the station's "Big Game Bash."

The Boston group Magic Man opened the event, putting on a free show for its fans prior to kick-off between Denver and Seattle. The band played songs off its 2013 album "You Are Here," as people began to file into The Cove for the big game celebration.

After Magic Man performed their pre-game show, the atmosphere calmed down a bit as the crowd settled in to watch the first half from Metlife Stadium. Despite the blowout, fans at The Cove were energetic about the halftime concert.

New Politics took the stage at halftime in front of an excited crowd, including some lucky VIPs who were able to meet the band before the show. The Danish rock band had previously been an opening act for Fall Out Boy and Pink. Its hit song "Harlem" is featured on EA Sports' "NHL 14" soundtrack.

New Politics and Magic Man were able to squeeze this Buffalo stop into their very busy tour schedule. The two bands will continue on their U.S tour with a show in St. Louis on Feb. 7, playing 15 more shows before they conclude their tour in Seattle at the end of this month.

The next time either band will return to the greater Buffalo area will be June 25, when New Politics comes to Toronto with Paramore and Fall Out Boy.
