Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 24, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 162 calls from Jan. 11 to 17. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls and eight fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 11

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle leaving a parking lot during the late hours of the night. The driver was determined to be an employee of the business.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a telephone pole. No injuries were reported.

•Tracey Lane, flood condition - Deputies responded to a report of the roadway flooding. The water was determined not to be a hazard.

•Oakridge Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•East River Road, road obstruction - Deputies located and removed a pine tree that had blown into the roadway.

•Glen Avon Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving up and down the roadway numerous times. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Homeland Drive, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that two vehicles drove down through the property by the power lines. Deputies located the vehicles, which had become stuck in the mud. Two juvenile offenders were arrested for trespass (a violation) and both were issued a number of traffic tickets. The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, Jan. 12

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, an unknown subject pried open numerous mailboxes in his apartment complex and stole various items of mail.

•Bedell Road, criminal contempt - While investigating the above complaint, deputies arrested a 41-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal contempt in the first degree (a class E felony) after he was found to be in violation of a court order. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Red Jacket Road, narcotics arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 23-year-old woman from Williamsville, a 23-year-old man from Grand Island, and a 22-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor). The 22-year-old man was additionally charged with possession of a hypodermic instrument (a class A misdemeanor). All the subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog from a neighboring apartment in her complex got loose and attacked her dog. The dog control officer was notified.

Monday, Jan. 13

•North Colony Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of wires being taken down by a vehicle. National Grid was notified.

Tuesday, Jan. 14

•Hennepin Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

•South Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Ward Park Road, shots fired - A complainant stated that she heard what appeared to be shotgun blasts in the area. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Wednesday, Jan. 15

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that three subjects were outside and appeared to be smoking marijuana. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects smoking the substance.

•Ransom Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. One driver was treated on-scene with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects were acting suspiciously and attempting to sell gift cards to other patrons at a gas station. Deputies located the subjects nearby and determined they had committed no criminal act.

Thursday, Jan. 16

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a female subject wearing dark clothes was walking on Grand Island Boulevard carrying a bag. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the female by the description given.

•South State Parkway, road obstruction - A complainant stated that several large objects were laying in the roadway. Deputies arrived on location to find the owner of the property picking up the items he dropped from a vehicle. The owner was advised.

•Whitehaven Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving all over the roadway on the I-190 and then exited onto Whitehaven Road where the complainant lost sight of the vehicle. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Friday, Jan. 17

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious subject was looking through his apartment windows at his family inside. The subject fled on foot prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Ransom Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was travelling unusually slow down the roadway and swerving. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.
