Obit: George K. Minton

George K. Minton, a resident of Grand Island, entered into rest Jan. 20, 2014.

Born in Buffalo, April 7, 1929, to George and Loretta (Everett) Minton, he was a descendant of settlers in Wales and Wales Center. Minton's ancestors established the Disciples of Christ Church in East Aurora.

George retired from General Motors as a general foreman in inspections and a contract engineer. He served as Grand Knight of Mary Star of the Sea Council 4752 Knights of Columbus; a Faithful Navigator Isaac Jogues Assembly Fourth Degree and served as a district deputy. He was active at St. Stephen R.C. Church parish for St. Stephen School and Catholic Charities. George jointly volunteered with his wife Eileen for SABAH, Variety Club of Buffalo Children's Hospital Telethon, and helped with the auctions to benefit the Grand Island music program. He also served the Republican Party as an election inspector and was honored. He was a member of the Buffalo Irish Center, American Legion 1041, and St. Stephen Holy Name Society. He was also an accomplished artist and member of the Buffalo Fine Arts and Grand Island Arts Society.

He is survived by wife of 62 years, Eileen (Everett) Minton; his children: Peggy (Rick) Whitmire, Kathleen (Rick) Watson, Barbara Minton, Paul (Mary) Minton, Peter (Michelle) Minton; his grandchildren: Scott (Kelly) Whitmire, Jennifer Deering, Daniel (Jennifer) Whitmire, Rick (Keri) Whitmire, Kevin Minton, Brian Minton, Matthew Minton, Jonathon Minton, and Katherine Minton; great-grandchildren: Erin Deering, Brendon Deering, Madison Deering, Katelyn Whitmire, Emily Whitmire, Ava Whitmire, Halle Jo Whitmire, Landon Whitmire, Caleb Whitmire; and sponsored special child: Juvien Chacon. He was the brother of Carol Withrow and the late William Minton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Kaiser Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen, 2100 Baseline Road. Interment will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Donations to Mary Star of the Sea Council 4752 Knight of Columbus, 1841 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island, NY 14072.
