Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 17, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 181 calls from Jan. 4 to 10. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 13 burglary false alarm calls and 11 fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 4

•South State Parkway, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in traffic. The dog control officer was notified.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 19-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Carl Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East Park Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that someone was attempting to break into his residence and when they noticed the complainant the subject fled. Deputies checked the area but found nothing out of order.

Sunday, Jan. 5

•Stony Point Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Stony Point Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and several traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Revere Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in a driveway of a nearby abandoned residence. Deputies checked the area and located the vehicle, but no subjects were located.

•Spicer Creek Run, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she heard noises outside of her residence and then observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the street. Deputies checked the area and determined everything to be in order.

Monday, Jan. 6

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog was locked in a vehicle and appeared to be in distress. The vehicle left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

•Ransom Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle outside of a local business after closing hours. The driver was located nearby and was determined to be the owner of the business.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

•Whitehaven Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down. Verizon was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•East River Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Bedell Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a mistake.

Thursday, Jan. 9

•East River Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject was prowling around. The subject was located nearby and determined to be a duck hunter.

•Blue Jay Lane, narcotics arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 29-year-old woman from Grand Island for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor), possession of a hypodermic instrument (a class A misdemeanor), and a traffic infraction. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Jan. 10

•Ransom Road, harassment - Following an investigation of a harassment complaint, deputies arrested a 42-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated harassment in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor) after he was found to be in possession of a shotgun. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees of a business stated that an unknown person stole a cell phone while on the premises during the past week. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Long Road, fire - Deputies assisted the Grand Island Fire Co. for a fire inside of an industrial plant. No injuries were reported.

•Blackmon Road, drunk driving - Following an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, deputies arrested a 23-year-old woman for driving while intoxicated and a traffic infraction. The woman submitted a sample of her blood for chemical analysis. She was then issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to the custody of a sober third party.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving up and down the street. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.
