Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

"Today, as we honor the life, legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded that, while we have made tremendous progress as a nation, civil rights challenges remain. Our charge is to protect the fragile gains made in generations past, redouble our efforts to combat ongoing discrimination, and make the principles of equal justice under law a reality for all. For the most vulnerable among us, significant and real challenges remain. For those who face discrimination or harassment, those struggling for financial security, those who are distressed homeowners, and those who are denied access to equal opportunities, there is still significant work that remains to be done to fulfill the dream of Dr. King.

"Let us use today as a moment to reflect on the progress achieved and to recommit ourselves to fighting more aggressively for equal justice under law for all."

The attorney general's office is committed to enforcement of federal, state and local civil rights laws. To file a complaint, contact the office's civil rights bureau at 212-416-8250 or [email protected].
