Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 10, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 150 calls from Dec. 28, 2013, to Jan. 3, 2014. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 12 burglary false alarm calls and seven fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 28

•West River Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees of a supermarket stated that a female subject was causing a disturbance in the store. The female left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies located the female nearby and advised her.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Love Road, suspicious person - Employees at a convenience store stated that a male subject was walking around the store and acting suspiciously. The male subject left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the surrounding area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Love Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a restaurant during the late evening hours. Deputies advised employees on location.

•Broadway, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested an 18-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, Dec. 29

•Stony Point Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked in her driveway. The vehicle left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she heard a lot of yelling and observed what appeared to be a fight on a neighbor's lawn during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke to numerous subjects on location, none of whom wanted to pursue the matter further. All parties were advised.

•Cox Road, parking complaint - A complainant stated that there were vehicles illegally parked on the town property at the end of the road. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Orchard Road, larceny - Numerous complainants stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered multiple unlocked vehicles and stole various items from inside.

•Love Road, warrant arrest - While investigating an unrelated incident, deputies arrested a 24-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed he had an outstanding warrant from the Town of Cheektowaga. The man was also charged with false personation (a class B misdemeanor) and transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•East River Road, hunters complaint - A complainant stated that several hunters were hunting waterfowl too close to the residences. Deputies located the subjects and determined no violation had occurred. The hunters were advised.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole various items.

•Towerwood Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole various items.

•Regency Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole several holiday decorations from his front lawn.

•Ferry Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole various items.

•Wallace Drive, fight - A complainant stated that several neighbors appeared to be fighting in the street. Deputies located the subjects and determined the fight was just a loud verbal argument. All parties were advised and left without further incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was running through a business parking lot without a shirt and jumped on a vehicle. Deputies located the subject, who stated he was pranking a friend. The subject was advised and left without incident.

Monday, Dec. 30

•East River Road, rescue - Deputies responded to a report of a subject who had fallen into the Niagara River while duck hunting. The subject was rescued by other hunters nearby and pulled from the water prior to the arrival of patrol. The subject was transported to a local area hospital with not seemingly life-threatening injuries.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

•Bedell Road, assault - A complainant stated that a known male subject from his apartment complex assaulted him with his crutch after a dispute. Deputies' investigation resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old man from Grand Island for assault in the second degree (a class E felony) and menacing in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that a known male subject stole numerous items from inside of his apartment. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, someone stole a laptop from her vehicle while it was at a restaurant. The complainant called back days later to report she found her misplaced laptop and it was never stolen.

Wednesday, Jan. 1

•Wallace Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he heard what appeared to be someone breaking into his residence. Patrol checked the residence and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a bus in the transportation lot at the school was running and no one was around it. Deputies checked the lot and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Thursday, Jan. 2

•West River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a vehicle was parked on West River Parkway during the early morning hours. Deputies located the vehicle and found the owner, who was hunting nearby.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Center Terrace, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was traveling the wrong way while on South State Parkway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

Friday, Jan. 3

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Following an investigation of a one-car motor vehicle accident, deputies arrested a 31-year-old man from Plantation, Fla., for driving while intoxicated and several traffic infractions. The man registered a .15 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500 bail.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Ferry Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested an 18-year-old man after a check showed he had an outstanding warrants from the City of Tonawanda, Town of Grand Island and the City of Buffalo. The man was further charged with criminal impersonation in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) after impersonating another person to try and elude arrest. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - An employee of a business stated that a subject who had previously stolen merchandise from the store was now on location attempting to return the goods. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman from Grand Island for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.
