Dire Straits' Alan Clark and Chris White, alongside five handpicked, world-class musicians will perform the music of Dire Straits at 8 p.m., Monday, March 3, at Kleinhans Music Hall.

The Straits features members of the original lineup performing songs from the Dire Straits collection. For fans that missed one of the best-loved bands of the '80s, the Straits offer a can't-miss musical experience.

It all began two years ago.

Dire Straits' keyboard player Alan Clark and sax player Chris White were having breakfast when Clark declared they were going to form The Straits. They'd been presented with the opportunity to play at a charity show at the Albert Hall, and as Clark had recently heard singer/guitarist Terence Reis performing a couple of Dire Straits songs rather brilliantly, the logical thing to do was to form a band around him.

The charity show at the Albert Hall was a resounding success: The Straits received prolonged standing ovations; people were in tears - even Clark's hard-nosed music lawyer was in tears. People who work there said they hadn't seen such a reaction in a long time. It was good, so good, in fact, they couldn't just leave it there.

So, they arranged to do some more shows, then some more, and, now, two years later, they're putting together a world tour and Buffalo will be one of their stops.

"We've been inundated with letters of support from Dire Straits' fans, and what has become apparent to us over the past two years is how much this music means to so many people - how much they've missed hearing it performed live with the skill, passion and energy they experienced back in the days of Dire Straits," Clark said.

Tickets for their Buffalo date go on sale Saturday, Jan. 17, and are priced at $36, $46 and $56. VIP tickets are available for $79, and include a meet-and-greet with the band.
