Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 27, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 160 calls from Dec. 14 to 20. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 12 burglary false alarm calls and one fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 14

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested an 18-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed he had an outstanding warrant from the City of Buffalo. The man was turned over to the custody of the Buffalo Police Department.

•Havenwood Lane, animal complaint - A complainant stated that there was a bird in her basement. Deputies were able to remove the bird from the residence.

•Wallace Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, all-terrain vehicle accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of an ATV accident with injuries. One male subject was transported to a local hospital with seemingly non-life threatening injuries.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Beaver Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person had dropped off a dumpster in her driveway. No markings were found on the dumpster to reveal an owner. The complainant was advised.

Sunday, Dec. 15

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, suspicious person - Deputies located two subjects loitering behind a restaurant. The subjects were advised and left without incident.

•Staley Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious person was walking on Staley Road with a backpack during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subject, who was walking to work.

Monday, Dec. 16

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Carl Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 28-year-old man from Grand Island after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation second degree (s misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $250 Bail.

•Fix Road, snowmobile complaint - A complainant stated that several snowmobiles were operating on her property without permission. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the snowmobiles.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a nearby apartment during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the apartment in question and advised the occupants.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that numerous vehicles were speeding up and down the street and the issue was an ongoing problem.

•Orchard Place, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving up and down the street numerous times. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and advised the driver.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, narcotics arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 21-year-oldwoman from Ohio, for criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor) and possession of a hypodermic instrument (a class A misdemeanor). She was transported to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500 Bail.

Thursday, Dec. 19

•Whitehaven Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. One driver was transported to a local hospital with seemingly non-life threatening injuries.

•Monica Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject appeared to be following a young child who had just got off the school bus. Deputies located the male subject nearby and advised him. The subject left without incident.

•Baseline Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. One driver was treated on scene with seemingly non-life threatening injuries.

•West River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Dec. 20

•Baseline Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 49-year-old man from Amherst for driving while intoxicated. The man refused to submit a sample of his breath for chemical analysis and is charged with driving while intoxicated (a felony for a previous conviction in the last 10 years), aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree (a felony) and numerous traffic infractions. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Warner Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in his driveway that did not belong there and no one appeared to be inside. Deputies contacted the owner and determined AAA had dropped the car off at the wrong residence after being towed from another location.

•Love Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious male subject was walking around the Grand Island Plaza asking strange questions to people. The male then left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of Patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the rear of the Trinity United Methodist Church during the evening hours. Deputies located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was at the church for a band practice.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a young male subject attempting to hitchhike on Baseline Road. Deputies contacted the subject's parents and returned him home.

•Fix Road, larceny - A complainant stated a known subject was observed stealing a bicycle from the yard of his residence. The subject left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of Patrol. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
