Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 6, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 167 calls from Nov. 16 to 22. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls and one fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Nov. 23

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a truck was hooking up a boat at River Oaks Marina during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke to the driver of the vehicle, who was an employee working on slips on the premise.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 38-year-old man from Grand Island for operating a motor vehicle while his registration was suspended (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .14 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party. One driver from the accident was transported to an area hospital with seemingly minor injuries.

Sunday, Nov. 24

•West River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she went outside during the early hours of the morning and found her garage door was open. Deputies checked the premises with the complainant, and nothing was reported stolen or damaged.

•Tracey Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check for a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - Deputies observed a male subject digging through the dumpster behind the Grand Island Memorial Library. The subject was advised and left without incident.

Tuesday, Nov. 26

•Whitehaven Road, customer trouble - An employee at a gas station/convenience store stated that a customer was causing a disturbance. The customer left prior to the arrival of patrol, but deputies located him nearby. All parties were advised.

•Sandy Beach Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 37-year-old man from Farnham for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic infractions after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed he had a suspended license. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone attempted to break into a trailer on his property by cutting a lock. Nothing was reported stolen.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked at a nearby residence that was vacant and up for sale. Deputies spoke with the owner of the vehicle, who was on location regarding the sale of the home.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was all over the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Schwegler Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke with the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Deerwood Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check for a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Long Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire hanging in the roadway. The wire was removed.

•Carl Road, animal loose - A complainant stated he found a dog running loose with no tags on it. The dog control officer was notified.

Thursday, Nov. 28

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - Deputies located a business with an open door and searched the premises but found no subjects inside. The manager was notified and responded to secure the building.

•Huth Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone slashed a tire on her vehicle.

Friday, Nov. 29

•Carl Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject dressed all in black was standing at the back door of her neighbor's home during the late hours of the night. The subject left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects matching the description.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that water was coming from the walls of a neighboring residence. Deputies were able to gain access to the vacant home and turned off the water supply to the residence.

•Bedell Road, attempted break-in - A complainant stated that while she was showering in her home she heard someone attempting to pry open her apartment door. While she was calling 911, the person fled in an unknown direction. Deputies canvassed numerous neighbors about the incident but were unable to gather any pertinent information. Nothing was reported stolen.

•I-190, warrant arrest - Deputies were notified that the Niagara County Sheriff's Office had arrested a 26-year-old man from Lockport on an outstanding warrant from the Erie County Sheriff's Office. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Monica Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent months, someone stole an engagement ring from inside her residence. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
