Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Nov. 29, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 139 calls from Nov. 16 to 22. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to nine burglary false alarm calls and three fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Nov. 16

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle was following a female who was walking. Deputies spoke to the female and the driver of the vehicle and determined the two knew each other and were having a verbal disagreement. All parties were advised.

•Bedell Road, hunting complaint - A complainant stated that three male subjects entered the woods near her apartment complex and appeared to be hunting. The complainant felt they were too close to the complex. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

•Island Park Court, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked on the street in front of her residence and appeared to be occupied. Deputies spoke to the driver of the vehicle, who stated she was waiting for a friend.

•Park Lane, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a white pickup truck was speeding up and down the street. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Stony Point Road, road obstruction - A complainant stated that kids in the area were putting bags of leaves in the street. Deputies determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Love Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a business. Deputies spoke to and advised employees on location.

Sunday, Nov. 17

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Park Place, illegal dumping - A complainant stated that a construction company building a residence in the area was dumping things on her land. Deputies were unable to speak with the workers, as they were not currently working during the time of the complaint.

•East River Road, open burning - A complainant stated that a nearby residence was burning leaves. Deputies spoke to the subjects and advised them.

•Sandpiper Lane, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. It was determined the occupants were attempting to dial an out-of-country number.

•East River Road, burglary - Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at a business. A check of the premise revealed an open door and deputies checked but no subjects found inside, however it was determined the business had been burglarized. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Monday, Nov. 18

•East River Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down. Verizon was notified.

•East River Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down. Time Warner Cable was notified.

•Baseline Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man from Grand Island on two outstanding warrants. The man was also charged with obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Grand Island Boulevard, obstruction arrest - While investigating the above warrant arrest, deputies arrested a 43-year-old man from Grand Island for obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Tuesday, Nov. 19

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Alt Boulevard, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check for a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

Wednesday, Nov. 20

•Love Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone cut the lock to the storage shed on his property. Nothing was reported stolen.

•Broadway, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 22-year-old woman from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic violations. The woman registered a .10 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of her breath for chemical analysis. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle entered the roundabout at a high rate of speed and drove over the curb. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. No damage was observed.

Thursday, Nov. 21

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person with vehicle - An employee of a restaurant stated that two vehicles were parked behind the business and appeared to be occupied by several subjects during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke to the subjects, who stated they were using the Wi-Fi offered by the business.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - An employee of a business stated that a vehicle was parked in the lot during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke to the occupant, who was completing construction work in the area and parked to get some rest. The subject was advised and left without incident.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that during the night three male subjects rang his doorbell and were inquiring how to get to Niagara Falls. The complainant pointed them in the general direction and the males left on foot. The complainant only wished to convey the information to patrol and was advised to call the police if another similar incident should occur.

Friday, Nov. 22

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, someone stole various items from her vehicle while it was parked at Grand Island High School.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated a vehicle was parked in the lot of Grand Island High School during the evening hours and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that several hours earlier someone stole various items from her vehicle by smashing a window to gain entry. After further investigation it was determined the incident occurred in the City of Buffalo. The complainant was referred to the Buffalo Police Department.
