The Western & Central New York Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced Deborah and Rocco Surace will serve as co-chairs for the society's 22nd annual Diamond Ball. The event will take place at Samuel's Grande Manor Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014.

"Our family became involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2008 when our daughter was diagnosed with acute mylogenous leukemia," Debbie Surace said. "We experienced first-hand the importance of patient and caregiver support and the benefits of privately funding cancer research. Research funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provided the cure that has allowed our daughter to complete her path to survivorship."

"Honored, privileged, thankful are just a few of the happy emotions we have felt since being invited to chair this very important event," Rocco Surace said. "We are forever committed to assist LLS in their ongoing missions of patient support and the research road to a cure, so many more families can beat this terrible disease."

Rocco and Deborah have been committed to the Western & Central New York Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Along with many family members and friends, they have participated in "Team in Training" and the "Light the Night" events to raise money for LLS. Their family has extended its support to other cancer-related efforts such as fundraising for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Deborah has been employed at Eastern Niagara Hospital as a registered nurse since 1979, working with patients in cardiac rehabilitation and cardiac stress testing. She received her bachelor of science degree from Niagara University.

Rocco is now a partner in his newly merged CPA firm The Bonadio Group. Before the merger, he was the managing partner of Gaines Kriner Elliott. His service areas of focus are attending to all of his clients' tax and accounting needs. Rocco has developed internationally recognized specialties in market-driven process improvement and performance-measurement programs, succession planning, strategic planning, business valuations, and consulting in the buying and selling of businesses. Rocco is a frequent speaker before industry association groups and professional organizations.

Rocco is on the boards of directors of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the Niagara USA Chamber, Eastern Niagara Health System and some local private companies. He is a member of the Niagara University President's Board of Advisors. He is also the chairman elect of the board of directors of the Theory of Constraints International Certification Organization. Rocco is a proud Vincentian graduate of Niagara University.

Rocco and Deborah reside in Lockport.

All proceeds from the 22nd annual Diamond Ball will be directed toward research of leukemia, lymphoma and blood cancers, local patient aid, advocacy and educational and community service programs in the Western & Central New York Region.
