Fans can use Twitter to immediately keep their favorite artists in the competition

NBC's "The Voice" and Twitter are combining forces to give viewers and fans of the Emmy Award-winning reality competition show a chance to instantly save their favorite artists from elimination.

The "Instant Save" will take place live during the results show on Tuesday, Nov 12. Previously, "The Voice" coaches exclusively had the power to save an artist from elimination, but now America will have an immediate say during the live show on Nov 12.

"We are literally putting the power in the hands of our viewers, granting them a direct way to affect the fate of the artists competing during the live telecast. When the bottom three are identified, fans will have five minutes to save their favorites via Twitter, ensuring our strongest performers remain," said Paul Telegdy, president, alternative and late night programming, NBC Entertainment. "This invaluable partnership with Twitter exemplifies our efforts to have social media play a huge part in the structure of the show."

"From its first episode, 'The Voice' has pushed the boundaries between the show and the audience, using Twitter to break convention and engage fans in totally new and unexpected ways. And now, with the 'Instant Save,' they're pushing the envelope again, giving fans at home as much power as the coaches," said Fred Graver, Twitter's head of television partnerships.

After the outcome is announced during each results show, America will have the opportunity to choose which of the bottom-three artists will be saved by tweeting their pick. Fans will have five minutes to tweet to save their favorite artist. Those tweets will then be tallied and the final results will be announced live. To utilize the "Instant Save," fans would need to log onto Twitter and tweet out #VoiceSave along with the artist's name.

Viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones will be able to watch and tweet during the live show. Viewers in the West and Mountain time zones will also be able tweet their choice at the same time as the Eastern and Central time zones if they are following the @nbcthevoice handle, which will announce that the save period is open and what artists are eligible. The social engagement platform from Telescope, the technology company used to authenticate votes on "The Voice," will tally the tweets in real time and the saved artist will be announced before the end of the telecast.

The "Instant Save" will be used on the Nov. 12, 19, 26 and Dec 3 shows.

Through the opening six weeks of the current TV season, the Monday edition of "The Voice" has averaged a 5.3 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49 and 15.6 million viewers overall, making it the No. 3 primetime series overall on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in 18-49, the No. 2 entertainment series and the No. 1 unscripted series. In total viewers, Monday's "Voice" ranks No. 5 overall, No. 4 among entertainment shows, and No. 1 among unscripted shows.
