On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Queen City Roller Girls will kick-off the 2014 season with the second annual "We all Brawl - Spill-O-Ween" exhibition bout. This year's event will feature three teams of 20-21 skaters competing in three, 30-minute bouts.

Keeping with the Halloween-themed event, this year's teams are the "Black Ninjas" (black), the "Bloody Betties" (white), and the "Smack O'Lanterns" (orange).

Similar to last year's event, teams this year were picked from a mixed roster of all of the skaters in the league. This unique system allows players from different teams, who are usually playing against one another, to skate together.

"I think this is a great event and can showcase the athleticism and teamwork involved in derby, as well as giving fans the chance to see player combinations that they normally wouldn't see," said Red Hair-ing, a skater on the Alley Kats. "I think it's going to be great to watch!"

For some of the skaters, this will also be their first opportunity to skate alongside their newest team members. This fall, the league held its annual draft, where newly qualified skaters were placed onto teams in the league.

InSINerator, a new skater on the Lake Effect Furies and the Alley Kats, is "really excited to skate in front of the best fans in derby. The noise and energy they give off can't be matched anywhere else."

The event will take place at the Rainbow Roller Rink 101 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the bout starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for front row access, $15 for general admission, and $10 for children ages 12 and under. Advanced tickets can be purchased at http://www.qcrg.net/event/we-all-brawl-qcrg-expo-bout-2013/

This game is included for 2013 season ticket holders.

Founded in 2006, the Queen City Roller Girls is Western New York's premier women's flat track roller derby league. It consists of four inter-league teams: The Suicidal Saucies, The Devil Dollies, The Nickel City Knockouts, and the Alley Kats; as well as the "Queen's Court," which introduces new skaters to the sport of roller derby; and the Lake Effect Furies travel team, which represents the Buffalo area in the National Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

Since its inception, the mission of Queen City Roller Girls has always been to foster an environment where women can be a part of a competitive sports environment (or discover the joys of training and competition for the first time), make lasting friendships, and improve the surrounding community.

Founded and supported entirely through the efforts of non-paid skaters, officials, and volunteers, QCRG has grown to more than 150 members and continues to grow throughout the Buffalo-Niagara Region.
