Fundraising efforts to build a new playground at Kaegebein Elementary School received a hand from a neighboring business. Kevin Slachciak, owner of Say Cheese Pizza Company, located just up Love Road from Kaegebein Elementary, presented the Kaegebein Playground Committee with a check for $750, proceeds from a golf tourney at Beaver Island State Park held Sept. 21.

On hand for a check presentation at the school Wednesday were, from left: Malinda Lisnitzer, BOCES ESL teacher and Playground Committee member; Katharine Dunnigan, teacher and Playground Committee treasurer; Stephanie McGowan, teacher and Playground Committee member; Jillian Drake, teacher and Playground Committee secretary; David Brand, Playground Committee co-chair; Jodi Chadima, Playground Committee co-chair; Slachciak; Richard Crawford, Grand Island councilman and Playground Committee member; and Mary Haggerty, principal of Kaegebein Elementary School.

Haggerty reports another fundraiser for the playground, the second annual "Dinner and a Show," featuring the Kaegebein Talent Show, will take place Dec. 6 at Grand Island High School. (photo by Larry Austin)
