Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Oct. 25, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 160 calls from Oct. 12 to 18. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to nine burglary false alarm calls and three fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Oct. 12

•Alvin Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked in the lot of a business during the early hours of the morning. The driver of the vehicle was located and advised.

•Riverdale Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole the outdrive from his watercraft. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that numerous racial slurs were written in chalk on various items around the playground at Kaegebein Elementary School. The chalk was removed.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - An employee of a motel stated that a customer was violating the room agreement and refused to leave the premises. After speaking with patrol, the subject was refunded the money he paid for his room and left the premises without further incident.

•Beaver Island State Park, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a dog was in the water near the docks at Beaver Island State Park and could not get out of the water. The dog control officer was notified.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was sleeping on the lawn of a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the subject, who owned the property, and advised him.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several subjects were walking in the roadway and the complainant almost struck them. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any persons in the road.

•Laurie Lane, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, someone stole two bicycles from an open garage. The bicycles were found several days later, left abandoned in a nearby neighborhood.

Sunday, Oct. 13

Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - An employee of a local auto mechanic shop stated that someone was stealing scrap metal from his yard and when approached by employees the subjects fled the scene in a U-Haul. An employee followed the U-Haul into Niagara County where the subject exited the U-Haul and fled on foot. A check confirmed the U-Haul was reported stolen during prior days. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Monday, Oct. 14

•White Oak Lane, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated he awoke to the sound of a vehicle crash outside his residence. When he looked outside he noticed a vehicle leaving the scene after it struck the complainant's vehicle. Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle by a plate that was left behind. The driver of the vehicle was issued several traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, parking complaint - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked unlawfully in the handicapped parking space at a local business. Deputies located the driver of the vehicle, who had forgotten to display her handicapped parking tag.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked across the street from his residence and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Colonial Drive, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check for a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked at the corner of his street for a few hours and appeared to be occupied. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any vehicle matching the description given.

•Long Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that two youths were riding their bicycles around the Metz Building. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

Wednesday, Oct. 16

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that his phone and GPS were stolen by someone from a locker room inside of Grand Island High School.

Thursday, Oct. 17

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle became disabled.

•South State Parkway, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked in the area for hours and was occupied by a female subject. Deputies located the vehicle, and the occupant stated she was looking for a missing cat in the area.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Deerwood Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she had recently arrived home and kept hearing noises inside the house. Deputies checked the residence and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby apartment in his building. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Friday, Oct. 18

•East Park Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•North Colony Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, customer trouble - An employee of a cab company stated that his fare was giving him a hard time and refusing to pay the fee. After speaking with deputies, the customer paid the cab fee and left without further incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 45-year-old man from Grand Island after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that an intoxicated male was wondering around the area of a business plaza. Deputies located the subject and assisted him to his residence.
