Ah, happy hour. Great food, great drinks, a fun atmosphere - and the chance to enjoy some much-needed downtime. What's not to love? Now, thanks to a fairly recent trend that's gaining momentum across the country, you and your favorite furry friend can love happy hour together. Happy hours called "Yappy Hours" are cropping up in pet-friendly restaurants, bars and hotels in cities everywhere. We've compiled a list of some of the best "Yappy Hours" across the country.

The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, Calif.

The Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, Calif., is one of the swankiest "Yappy Hours" around. From May through September, a "Yappy Hour" charity event benefiting Friends of Orange County's Homeless Pets is held each month at the hotel. Humans can dine on burgers, beer and wine, while their canine counterparts sample hand-made dog biscuits and liver- or cheese-flavored water. But the story's not over after September: The hotel features a special "Yappy Howl-O-Ween" event in October, and a "Yappy Howl-iday" celebration in December.

Rumor, the Las Vegas Boutique Resort, Las Vegas

Every third Thursday of each month, the party is on at Rumor Boutique Resort in Las Vegas. The hotel welcomes well-behaved dogs of all breeds and sizes to its famed "Yappy Hour," where there are great cocktails, delicious "yappetizers," and live DJs providing music. For four-legged guests, there are doggie contests and free doggy goodie bags.

The Liberty Hotel, Boston

The Liberty Hotel is one of Boston's finest, coolest and most dog-friendly places to stay. Once a city jail, today the hotel hosts "Yappier Hour" from 5:30 until 8 p.m. every Wednesday. "Yappier Hour" is held from spring through fall, weather permitting. The fun takes place in The Yard, an enclosed space that used to serve as the exercise yard for the jail's inmates!

Wonder Bar, Asbury Park, N.J.

A famed institution in New Jersey's Asbury Park, Wonder Bar offers fun in the sun for everyone. Crowds of dogs come to play their hearts out, enjoy complimentary treats, and splash in the pool, while their humans enjoy the restaurant's delicious drink specials. "Yappy Hour" is held every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., beginning in April and ending in November.

Allentown Brew Works, Allentown, Pa.

There's truly no beer better than a handcrafted brew, and there's no one better to enjoy a brew with than your best canine buddy. Allentown Brew Works in Allentown, Pa., knows this, so every Monday, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., they hold a "Doggie Yappy Hour" on the Biergarten Patio. On the menu: artisanal and seasonal beer and the "Yappy Hour Special," the purchase price of which goes toward a respected animal charity.

Hotel Monaco Alexandria, Alexandria, Va.

The Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, Va., is known for luxury, old-fashioned southern hospitality, and a sincerely dog-friendly spirit. The hotel's "Doggie Yappy Hour" is a community event where locals and their dogs can share a friendly drink and some great conversation with hotel guests from around the world. "Yappy Hour" starts at 5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, and runs from April through October. Doggie treats and fresh water are on the house for pups, while humans can order from the hotel restaurant's Jackson 20's bar menu, which offers regional dishes, craft beers, cocktails and a wine list featuring local vintages.

World of Beer

In tropical Miami, the World of Beer's Dadeland location offers a "Yappy Hour" that doesn't quit. The weekly event lasts all day, and features treats for your dog and a sweet discount for you: $1 off of any beer with the word "dog" in its name.

It's important to note that, for health code reasons, dogs are not allowed inside restaurant areas. In addition, your dog must be properly socialized and on his or her best behavior at any "Yappy Hour." For specific rules and regulations, contact the establishment before you attend.
