Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Sept. 13, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 160 calls from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 17 burglary false alarm calls and one fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Aug. 31

•Whitehaven Road, animal bite - A complainant stated she was bitten by two dogs while on Whitehaven Road. The dog control officer was notified and the complainant was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Bedell Road, attempted break-in - A complainant stated that he heard a male subject attempting to break into his residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the male subject and determined that he was highly intoxicated and apparently had mistaken the complainant's residence for his own. Charges are pending.

•Love Road, suspicious incident/unlawful possession of marijuana - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked at a convenience store and was occupied by several subjects. A complainant stated that the subjects appeared to be smoking marijuana. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and their investigation resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old woman from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and several traffic infractions. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 1

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - An employee of a gas station stated that an unknown subject entered the store and stole beer. The subject then got into a vehicle and fled. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole jewelry from his unlocked vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that while she was in a supermarket someone pickpocketed her and stole money. The complainant left the area before speaking to patrol.

•West River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle kept driving by her residence and the occupants inside were yelling at her. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday, Sept. 2

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music and yelling was coming from a nearby apartment in her complex. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any loud music.

•Baseline Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of wires down. National Grid was notified.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked underneath the South Grand Island Bridge. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver, who left without incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving recklessly on the road. Deputies located the vehicle parked in a local business unoccupied.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby apartment in her complex during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any loud music.

•White Tail Run, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were running around the neighborhood ringing doorbells during the late hours of the night. Deputies located one juvenile subject and returned him to his residence. No damage was observed.

•Staley Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was speeding down the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Jen Court, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject knocked on his door and told him there was a person walking around the neighborhood with a gun. The male subject then got into a vehicle and left. Deputies checked the area thoroughly and did not locate any subject with a gun or the male subject who reported it. Deputies determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Love Road, larceny - An employee at a convenience store stated that a known subject stole beer from the store. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Beaver Island State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Sept. 4

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she observed several youths who appeared to be breaking into her vehicle during the late hours of the night. The complainant yelled at the subjects and they fled in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. No damage was observed and nothing was reported missing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Long Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was swerving into oncoming traffic. The complainant was able to follow the vehicle to the residence of the registered owner. Deputies spoke to all parties and advised them.

Thursday, Sept. 5

•Marlin Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked near her residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Long Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that while she was driving on the I-190 she observed a male subject on the property of the abandoned Metz Building. The complaint had no further information and continued driving to her destination. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. No damage was observed.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were throwing rocks at passing vehicles. Deputies located the youths and advised them. No damage was reported.

•Oakridge Drive, youth activity - A complainant stated a group of youths were running through yards in the area. Deputies located several youths in the area and advised them.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Sept. 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•South Lane, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the residence and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a female subject was kicked off of the bus and was talking to herself about fleeing the country. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any person matching the description given.
