State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C-Newfane, a member of the Senate's transportation committee, today announced a nearly $8 million investment for a key highway construction project in western Niagara County. The investment will be funded through the New York Works State Highway and Bridge Project Acceleration Program, which was approved as part of this year's enacted state budget.
Specifically, the state will invest $7.92 million toward replacing the superstructure and repairing the substructure of the bridges that carry Route 265 (Military Road) and the I-190 over the Power Reservoir. This large project also entails federal investment.
"Directing more state resources to road and bridge projects in Western New York has been a top priority of mine," Maziarz said. "These construction projects not only lead to newer, safer routes, but also to job creation."
In Region 5 of the New York State Department of Transportation, which encompasses Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties, the total project investment from the acceleration program will be $45.96 million.
