UB Center for the Arts announces fall 2013 season

Eclectic schedule features concerts, dance, speakers, comedy, international events and more

The Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, announces its fall 2013 season. All performances will be held in the Mainstage Theatre located at the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

WYRK EnergyMark Fall Acoustic Show

Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $35, $25

Featuring Easton Corbin, Joel Crouse and Charlie Worsham. Presented by WYRK-FM.

A Conversation with Marv Levy

Sept. 20 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $40, $35

A celebration of the life and times of a Pro Football Hall of Fame coach, presented by Rocket Flash Entertainment.

Sarah Brightman: Dreamchaser World Tour

Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $155, $105, $85

Since she rose to international fame as the original Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," Sarah Brightman has distinguished herself as the world's biggest selling soprano of all time. She is touring in support of her 11th studio album, "Dreamchaser." This will be a rare appearance in an intimate theater as her tour plays large theaters and arenas worldwide.

Joe Satriani: Unstoppable Momentum Tour

Special Guest: Steve Morse Band

Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $31 to $64

Joe Satriani has been an unstoppable force on the music scene for more than 27 years. Joining Satriani on the road is Mike Keneally on keyboards, along with an entirely new rhythm-section, featuring bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minnemann.

Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs) will open the concert.

M&T Bank Dance Series

LehrerDance

Oct. 5 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $28.50 general, $13.50 students

Buffalo's internationally renowned professional dance company kicks off the season with a stunning concert showcasing the company's trademark blend of artistry and athleticism.

Herbie Hancock

Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $27.50 to $77.50

Herbie Hancock is a true icon of modern music. His quartet for this performance includes: Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), James Genus (bass) and Lionel Loueke (guitar).

David Sedaris

Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $42.50 general, $25.50 students

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers. A book signing will follow his presentation.

The Piano Guys

Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $32 general, $22 students

The Piano Guys became an Internet sensation by way of their immensely successful series of strikingly original self-made music videos on YouTube with more than 130 million views. This concert will mark their Western New York premiere.

The truTV Impractical Jokers Tour featuring The Tenderloins

Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $38

The stars of the popular TV comedy series perform. Presented by AEG Live.

M&T Bank Dance Series

Shanghai Ballet in "The Butterfly Lovers"

Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $31.50, $23.50 general, and $13.50 students

The Shanghai Ballet, under the direction of former principal dancer Xin Lili, has a 34-year history of performing classical western ballet, contemporary dance, and folk-styled Chinese national ballet.

Reinventing Radio: An Evening with Ira Glass

Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $51.50, $39.50

WBFO presents a riveting look into "This American Life," the public radio show that continues to push the boundaries of broadcast journalism.

World Blues featuring Taj Mahal

Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.

Tickets: $42, $37, $27

A celebration of American blues music's global influence. Anchored by iconic folk-blues legend Taj Mahal, the evening will also feature the soulful South African blues of guitarist/vocalist Vusi Mahlasela and the more modern rock and roll perspective of Fredericks Brown.

Tango Fire in "Flames of Desire"

Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

Direct from Buenos Aires, the sensational Tango Fire presents their new show featuring 10 dancers, one of Argentina's finest young singers and a quartet of brilliant musicians.

Chris Cornell: Solo Acoustic Concert

Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

The acclaimed lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave performs a special solo acoustic show.

Barenaked Ladies

Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The popular band celebrates its 25th anniversary with a tour in support of latest release "Grinning Streak." Presented by Live Nation.

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $29.50 general, $13.50 students

Formed in 1951, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance ensembles in the world.

Wayne Shorter

Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $54, $46, $38

After rising to international fame as a member of the second Miles Davis Quintet and as co-founder of the band Weather Report, Wayne Shorter is one of the most influential saxophonists and composers in modern music, let alone jazz.

Katharine McPhee

Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Concert to Benefit Ronald McDonald House

The actress and Columbia recording artist performs a concert to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo. Presented by Derico of East Amherst Corp.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra - Christmas Rocks 10th Anniversary Tour

Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets: $37 to $77

The Brian Setzer Orchestra, fronted by three-time Grammy Award-winner Brian Setzer, makes their Buffalo premiere with a special Thanksgiving-eve show.

The Nutcracker

Dec. 7 at 1 and 7 p.m.

Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.

The holiday tradition presented by The American Academy of Ballet. On sale date to be announced.

Colm Wilkinson - Broadway, Christmas and Beyond

Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Colm Wilkinson originated such memorable, classic roles as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables" and the Phantom in "The Phantom of the Opera." "Broadway, Christmas and Beyond" gives fans old and new an opportunity to see and hear a more intimate and personal side of this phenomenal performer.

The Trailer Park Boys - Dear Santa Claus Tour

Dec. 11 at 8 p.m.
