Let your child's imagination set sail to higher seas this summer with Niagara Jet Adventures' boat-naming contest. Open to children ages 2-12 who live within the Niagara River Region - Lewiston, Porter, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn - participants have the opportunity to have a name of their choice appear on the very first boat of this new gorge attraction, which will start this fall.

"We wanted the community involved with the boat-naming, that's why we created this competition," stated Melissa Morinello, owner/executive planner of Sparkle! Marketing & Events, who is coordinating the competition on behalf Niagara Jet Adventures co-owner Mike Fox. "So we thought it would be good to have children that live within the river region - the future of the community where Niagara Jet Adventures operates - to have the opportunity to name the first of the three ships through this contest."

The Niagara Jet Adventures' boat-naming contest is open from July 13-28. The entry form is found in today's Sentinel, and will also appear in the July 20 and July 27 editions of the Sentinel and online at www.wnypapers.com.

Submissions should be sent to: Sparkle! Marketing & Events, PO Box 386, Lewiston, NY 14092.

Entries must include the submitted name of the boat, which is limited to a maximum length of 12 characters; the first name only of the child submitting the entry; the child's current age (ages 2-12); the full name of the adult age 18 years or older who submitted on behalf of the child, and their relation to the contestant; the adult's email address; and the name of the town/village that the contest entrant resides in. Entries are limited to residents of Lewiston, Porter, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn.

For all submissions, parental consent must be given to Niagara Jet Adventures in order to use the name and likeness of the grand prizewinner in all contest-related promotions. If parental consent is not provided on the entry, Niagara Jet Adventures will seek parental consent. Failure to respond with consent within one week of notification to Niagara Jet Adventures by the parent/guardian of a child entrant will result in disqualification of the entry.

"Think up names that pertain to your favorite things about the water, the Niagara region, Western New York and especially the gorge, since the jetboat attraction will be running through there," Morinello said. "The key is to have fun while doing it."

All entries will be reviewed by a prize panel based on conformity to the contest rules, then selected and ranked in order of the top three as finalists. A grand prizewinner will be selected, and the other two finalists will receive runner-up prizes.

Grand prize is an Apple 16 gigabyte iPod Touch, in addition to passes for the child and their family for an upcoming trip on Niagara Jet Boat Adventures, and an invitation to attend the "christening of the boats" event, which is scheduled to take place this fall at the Fox Boyz Marina once the newly built vessel is delivered.

Runners-up and their families will receive passes for a future trip on a Niagara Jet Adventures jetboat.

The winning entry will be announced on Aug. 3.
