Niagara County will once again host SWIP (Senior Walk in the Park) on June 6.

SWIP was established in May 2001 to celebrate older adults and promote healthy living and activities in a community setting. The inaugural gathering was at Goat Island in Niagara Falls. Twelve years later, the annual event continues to grow.

More than 250 people participated in 2012 at the event's new location, the Calvin K. Richards Senior Center/Youth Activity Center, Veterans Memorial Park, 7000 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara.

SWIP is free to the public with registration beginning at 10 a.m. and offers a choice of three walking routes. The festivities will include warm-up activities, a health fair and screenings, entertainment, refreshments and raffles.

This event is made possible through the donations of businesses and neighbors. Sponsors include Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Univera Health, Complete Senior Care, Calamar, ElderWood Senior Care, EPIC, Ernie Fera, Health System Services, and Home Watch Care Givers, just to name a few.

For more information or to become a sponsor, contact Dot Swift at 716-285-8824, ext. 215.
