Expands commitment to covering Western New York weather

WGRZ has announced Jennifer Stanonis is now full time on the 2 On Your Side team, making Storm Team 2 the largest weather team in Buffalo. Stanonis joins Kevin O'Connell, Andy Parker, Maria Genero and Mary Beth Wrobel, thus expanding the station's commitment to covering weather in Western New York.

Stanonis joined the 2 On Your Side team in 2012. She is a northern California native who moved to Western New York nearly a decade ago, in 2005, when she started forecasting on Buffalo television. She has covered the most severe weather events here since, from the studio anchoring and out in the field reporting. These include the Cheektowaga tornado and the October snowstorm of 2006, numerous tornado outbreaks, and damaging snow and wind events.

Stanonis has a calculus-based meteorology degree from SUNY College at Brockport. She graduated in the top of her class and in the honor's program. She also founded the local Brockport Chapter of the National Weather Association and Meteorology Club in 2011.

Stanonis is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and has her broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State University.

Before moving to Buffalo, Stanonis was a weather anchor, weekend news anchor, and general assignment reporter for two years at KCWY, NBC in Casper, Wyo.

Storm Team 2's forecasts are the most accurate in Buffalo for nine years running, according to WeatheRate, the national company that measures forecast accuracy across the country.
