Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick reminds residents that the annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is on Saturday, April 27, and several sites across Erie County will accept medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration and several local agencies, National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day collects thousands of pounds of drugs and disposes of them properly. In 2012, a total of 488,395 pounds of medications were collected across the country.

"National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is the perfect opportunity to remove unwanted or expired drugs from your home. By dropping off items at one of the several collection sites, you ensure they are properly disposed of and don't fall into the wrong hands, which can lead to abuse or accidental poisoning," said Hardwick.

Local collection sites include:

•Grand Island Police Department will be collecting at Grand Island Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Road.

•Tonawanda Police Department will be collecting at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, 2950 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore.
