Area Easter egg hunts

Looking to fill up your Easter baskets with the kids this weekend? Hop on down to any of these fun-filled events to kick-off your Easter festivities.

•The Town of Porter Recreation Department will hold its annual hunt Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson Elementary School, 3745 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. The event is open to all Porter children age 11 and under. Special prizes will be awarded to those who find the golden eggs. The Easter Bunny will visit with goody bags.

•The New York Power Authority is celebrating the season by holding its annual "Spring Eggstravaganza" Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Power Vista, 5577 Lewiston Road.

•The volunteers of the SPCA of Niagara will hold an Easter egg hunt beginning at noon, Sunday, March 24, on the shelter grounds, 2100 Lockport Road, Wheatfield. Admission is free. In addition to the hunt, the event will feature face painting and an activity table. The event, open to children age 12 and under, will be held rain or shine. Prizes will be awarded.

•The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston is hosting its annual hunt Saturday, March 30, at Kiwanis Park in Lewiston. The hunt will begin at noon for children ages 11 and under. Prizes will be awarded.

•On Saturday, March 30, the Youngstown Lions Club will hold its annual hunt at Old Fort Niagara State Park near the Nature Center by the swimming pool. Sponsored by the Youngstown Lions Club, the hunt will start at 11 a.m. sharp. Children between the ages of 1 and 10 are welcome to participate.

The event is broken down into three age groups - children from 1 to 4 years of age; children ages 5 to 7; and children ages 8 to 10. There will be one winner chosen for each of these age groups who will receive a special prize. In addition, if a child finds a special egg he or she will win a distinctive prize. Children will be welcomed by the Easter Bunny and Louie the Lion. Candy will be provided for all participants. For more information, contact Event Chairman Lion Peter Kaminski at 716-745-7709.

•The Wilson Lions Club is holding its annual hunt at the Wilson Historical Society, 645 Lake St., on Saturday, March 30, with registration at 11 a.m. The hunt gets under way at noon. Additional activities include face painting and arts and crafts. Prizes will be awarded. For more information, call Lion Bob Hull at 716-751-6100.

•The fifth annual Easter egg hunt at the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, will take place on Saturday, March 30, from noon to 3 p.m. Last year more than 300 children were in attendance.

The event is free and open to the public for children up to 10 years old and all children must be accompanied by an adult. The event will feature photos with the Easter Bunny and registration starts at noon. The Easter Egg Hunt will start at 1 p.m. There will be many other activities, including face-painting, craft stations, a basket raffle and prizes for children of all ages.

•The Herschell Carrousel Museum at 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda, is holding its "Egg-cellent" Easter event Saturday, March 30, from noon to 4 p.m. Children can learn about the history of the Easter bunny and participate in crafts, games and other activities. In honor of Dyngus Day don't miss a special performance by the Polish Dancers of Western New York, followed by an old-fashioned egg roll on the lawn. The event is open to the public at $5 per person.
