Waste Management announced Wednesday that the company delivered $892,994 in gross receipt taxes to various local community partners. Last year, the total payment was $646,401. These payments are over and above property and school taxes paid by the hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility. New York state requires a hazardous waste facility to charge 6 percent GRT on all hazardous waste landfilled.

"The gross receipt taxes from the site are divided into thirds," explained WM Spokesperson Lori Caso. "One third goes to the Town of Porter, one third to the Town of Lewiston, and one third is divided up between the Lewiston-Porter, Niagara Wheatfield and Wilson school districts based upon student population."

The amounts delivered were:

•$297,665 to the Town of Porter

•$297,665 to the Town of Lewiston

•$218,795 to the Lewiston-Porter School District

•$62,386 to the Niagara-Wheatfield School District

•$16,483 to the Wilson Central School District

The amount was determined by revenue generated by CWM Chemical Services during 2012.

Waste Management is the parent company of CWM Chemical Services LLC.
