Obit: Eileen K. O'Brien

Eileen K. O'Brien entered into rest March 11, 2013. She was a resident of Grand Island.

She was the dear sister of the Rev. David E. O'Brien, O.M.I., and the late Mary Elizabeth O'Brien and Laura (the late James) Conboy; the beloved aunt of Anne Byrne, James (Rebecca) Conboy, Eileen (Jeffrey) Stone and David (Karen) Conboy; the cherished great aunt of Hilary (Jeremy) Maxwell and James Byrne; Madelyn, Laura and Jimmy Conboy, Meredith, Brendan and Griffin Stone, and Sarah McMahon, David and Clare Conboy; the dearest great-great aunt of David Anthony, Sierra and Logan Maxwell, and Hailey McMahon; and the daughter of the late David and Laura O'Brien.

Friends may call Friday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen R.C. Church (the old church), on Baseline Road. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friends of the Brazilian Oblates c/o Pat Carr, 184 Wendover Ave., Tonawanda, NY 14223.

Following her retirement from the New York Telephone Company, Ms. O'Brien was asked to return and oversee the telecommunications infrastructure for the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y. This final assignment was a testament to her technical expertise and outstanding managerial capabilities.

Ms. O'Brien was an avid traveler, spending considerable time abroad in France, Italy and Brazil. She also was an accomplished organist who held amongst her most cherished memories playing the majestic pipe organ at St. Joseph's Cathedral in downtown Buffalo. She grew up loving opera, and was an accomplished gourmet chef: a passion that brought great joy to her beloved family!
