The Most Rev. Richard Malone, bishop of Buffalo paid a pastoral visit to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity and to Stella Niagara Education Park on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Bishop Malone attended an assembly with the entire student body. "Our theme for the year is, 'Where there is darkness, let me be light," Principal Sister Margaret Sullivan explained in her introduction. "All of our prayer activities, prayer services, masses and community service projects reflect this theme."

Using songs in keeping with the theme, the children's chorus and the dance club performed. The bishop then addressed the student body, telling a bit of his own history and how he came to be in Buffalo. Bishop Malone engaged the students in conversation, asking questions about the school and answering questions about the work of a bishop.

Finally, he offered a blessing on the school before visiting with the Sisters of St. Francis in the convent and health center. He celebrated Mass and had dinner with the community.

Bishop Malone was installed as the 14th bishop of Buffalo in August of 2012. He is acquainting himself with the many Catholic schools in Western New York.
