Town of Niagara Police Blotter for Jan. 17, 2013

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between Jan. 7 and 14.

Monday, Jan. 7

•2500 block of Military Road, larceny. Complainant states an unknown male walked out the front door with a 32-inch flat screen television, put it in the trunk of a silver Nissan Altima with tinted windows, and fled the scene.

•4800 block of Theresa Lane, mental health. Complainant said she is depressed and unable to sleep. Taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance.

Tuesday, Jan. 8

•1500 block of Military Road, larceny. A male accompanied by two females was seen placing four steaks in his jacket and leaving the store.

•Hyde Park Boulevard and Lockport Road, Military Road and Third Avenue, traffic tickets. A driver was stopped for driving at night without headlights and going through a red light. He also could not show proof of insurance. In the second incident, the driver was stopped for going through a red light and having an inspection sticker that expired in November. He said, "Sorry, I thought I could beat the light and I was given a ticket for the inspection sticker, but haven't had a chance to get it inspected."

Wednesday, Jan. 9

•4800 block of Tuscarora Road, mental health. A woman, highly upset about losing her job, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for evaluation after her fiancé and a witness said they believed she was about to jump over the bridge.

•700 block of B Street, removal. A woman reported her ex-roommate was intoxicated and pounding on her door. Patrol found him on A Street and discovered he had an active bench warrant out of Town of Niagara and took him into custody.

•Military Road, traffic ticket. A driver, observed doing 51 mph in a 40 mph zone and having an expired inspection sticker, said, "Yeah, I know, but I'm waiting for my taxes."

Thursday, Jan. 10

•1500 block of Military Road, larceny. A 57-year-old Niagara Falls Boulevard resident was arrested after he fled from a business where he placed steak, shrimp, chicken and olives in a store recyclable bag and fled toward the city. He was transported back to the scene by a Niagara Falls Police officer.

•8200 block of Porter Road, stolen vehicle. A woman reported someone stole her maroon 1991Chevrolet overnight. She said the vehicle was in the driveway unlocked and the keys were under the seat.

•5000 block of Tuscarora Road, animal problem. Patrol secured a stray, black and white poodle-terrier mix that had been wandering all day in the parking lot area of Wildwood Acres. SPCA responded.

Friday, Jan. 11

•Military Road and Fashion Outlet Boulevard, traffic ticket. Driver heading south on Military Road went through a steady red signal.

•200 block of Beckwith Avenue, EMS. A 70-year-old woman was transported to Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center by Rural Metro Ambulance after falling in the driveway.

Saturday, Jan. 12

•2300 block of Military Road, EMS. An Ely Avenue resident fell and struck his face while climbing over ice at the north side of a business had a large cut on his forehead and appeared disoriented. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance.

•2400 block of Military Road, larceny. A Rhode Island Avenue man reported he left his wallet in his pants pocket inside a locker and, when he returned, someone had removed $300 and a personal check in the amount of $68.

•1000 block of Expressway Village, check situation. Caller reported large open burn with lots of smoke. Resident stated he threw wet boxes on his campfire. He was advised that it is illegal to have an open burn in the town. Another resident from the 7200 block of Packard Road was advised of town policy in a separate incident.

Sunday, Jan. 13

•9300 block of Lockport Road, rollover accident. Driver said he swerved when a rabbit ran in front of his vehicle, which caused him to lose control and go through a ditch, causing his vehicle to roll over and end up against a tree. Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Co. and Rural Metro Ambulance responded, but driver stated he was not injured.

•600 block of C Street, assist citizen. Complainant was angry with a male for not giving her a cigarette. She was advised to get her own cigarettes.

•Licata Drive, trespass. Complainant said he heard noise in his garage and found a highly intoxicated male wedged between his truck and the stairs leading to the residence. It was discovered that the 55-year-old Royal Avenue resident had an active warrant out of Orange County, Fla., for first-degree robbery, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Monday, Jan. 14

•8200 block of Cherry Lane, larceny. Complainant reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway and took $10 from the center console.
