The Rev. Jimmy Rowe, the academic/community coordinator and co-founder of the NU applied urban ministry program, announces the start of the spring 2013 cohort of classes of the successful applied urban ministry professional development certificate program.

The spring 2013 cohort of classes will start with a mandatory orientation on Feb. 19, 2013; with the academic classes starting on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.

The professional development certificate applied urban ministry program at Niagara University was designed by faith communities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls and is designed and conceptualized as a "mini-seminary." The goal of the applied urban ministry program is to develop a set of applied skills to make pastors and lay-Christian leaders more effective in efforts to animate and lead their congregations and communities. Instructors are selected from different denominations and areas of expertise in order to bring a comprehensive view to church leadership, faith and the people who support their churches.

Students must complete 11 courses in order to complete the final requirements to graduate. The program consists of four core courses, three courses from either clergy or lay tract, and four elective courses.

Organizes said the glory of God's blessing to the participants of this faith journey is that the applied urban ministry program is tuition free. There is a non-refundable application processing fee of $35. Returning students who wish to take any of the new applied courses can do so for a modest re-enrollment fee of $5.

For more information regarding how to enroll into the applied urban ministry certificate program, contact Niagara University's Office of Continuing Education at 716-286-8181 or online at http://www.niagara.edu/ce.
