At its annual scholarship dinner meeting on July 23, the board of trustees of the Youngstown Free Library presented the library's Ruby Carey Scholarship for 2012 to Corrine Casal.
Casal was the valedictorian of the Lewiston-Porter graduating Class of 2012. She achieved the highest grade-point average out of her 214 classmates.
Her other Lew-Port accomplishments included membership in the National Honor Society and the Lewiston-Porter Key Club; she was an officer of the Class of 2012 (she was vice president from 2007 to 2011), and a member and officer of the Lancer Council, acting as secretary from 2008 to 2011.
Casal is very active in her community as a member of the Lewiston-Porter Historical Society, and volunteers at Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center and at the Youngstown Free Library.
Casal will attend Cornell University this fall. She will study pre-medicine or biology.
