Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Aug. 3, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 195 calls from July 21 to 27. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 20 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, July 21

•Baseline Road, deer struck - A complainant stated that a deceased deer was in the roadway in front of her residence. Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition was notified.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole scrap metal from his property sometime in recent days.

•Baseline Road, animal death - A complainant stated it appears a dog was deceased on the side of the road. Deputies found the animal, which was a fox, and removed it from the roadway.

•Grand Island Boulevard, counterfeit money - Employees at a business in an amusement park stated that they had fraudulent money used at a food stand inside the park. The money was turned over to the Sheriff's Office.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a business stated that money was stolen from an office inside of the business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had broken down.

•Grand Island Boulevard, parking violation - Employees at a business stated that several vehicles were parked illegally inside of the parking lot. Deputies issued parking tickets to the vehicles.

•Grand Island Boulevard, harassment - An employee of a business stated that two subjects harassed her when she went out to her vehicle in the parking lot. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

•Oakridge Drive, fireworks use - A complainant stated that fireworks were being used in the area. Deputies located the residence where the fireworks were being used and advised the subjects.

Sunday, July 22

•Wallace Drive, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source and advised the subjects to turn down the music.

•Ward Park, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source and advised the subjects to turn down the music.

•Blackmon Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source and advised the subjects to turn down the music.

•Marjorie Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked in the street and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the subject.

•Whitehaven Road, shots fired - A complainant stated a subject was target shooting at a residence on Whitehaven Road. Deputies located the subject and advised him of the Town of Grand Island ordinance regarding discharging firearms.

•East River Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone broke into her residence and attempted to steal items. At the time of the report, no items were reported as missing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Schwegler Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that fireworks were being used in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects using fireworks.

Monday, July 23

•Ransom Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot of a gas station/convenience store late at night. Deputies advised the subjects, who left without incident.

•Whitehaven Road, dog bite - Deputies responded to a report of a child bitten by a dog. The child was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a supermarket stated that several items were stolen from the store. The incident was recorded by the store's surveillance system. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of 30 year-old man from Hamburg for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

Tuesday, July 24

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that two subjects were attempting to load a steel beam into the back of a pickup truck. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a subject was sitting on the side of the road nearly in traffic. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

Wednesday, July 25

•Greenway Road, shots fired - A complainant stated he heard a gunshot ring out in the neighborhood. Deputies checked the area and no further noises were heard.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupant and the call appeared to be a misdial.

•First Street, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested an 81-year-old man from Grand Island after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic infractions. The man was released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Webb Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupant and the call appeared to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during recent days, someone stole various items from outside of his business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - Employees at an amusement park stated a subject inside the park was intoxicated and refusing to leave. Deputies escorted the man from the park without incident.

•Ferry Road, larceny - A complainant stated that a known individual stole various items from her business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Fix Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious male was sitting on the side of the road. Deputies located the male subject, who had a permit to sell items door-to-door and was taking a break.

•East River Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that two youths with backpacks were riding bicycles on East River Road during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths.

•Love Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a young male subject was attempting to buy beer from a grocery store. The subject tried several times but was refused. Deputies were unable to locate the subject, who left prior to patrol's arrival.

Thursday, July 26

•Whitehaven Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 20-year-old man from Cicero after a DMV check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other traffic infractions. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Harvey Road, parking violation - A complainant stated a moving van was parked near an intersection and was obstructing the view of travelling motorists. Deputies located the van and advised the driver to move the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - An employee at a gas station/convenience store stated that a customer became argumentative when his credit card was declined. The subject pushed the employee and, before leaving the store, stole some change. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man from Grand Island for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor) and harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•I-190 hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that a vehicle ran him into a guard rail on the Thruway. The vehicle then sped off in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Friday, July 27

•Town Hall Terrace larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole a spare tire cover from her vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole a spare tire cover from her vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Love Road, marijuana arrest - Deputies located three youths around the area of a grocery store. While speaking with the youths, deputies noticed they were acting suspiciously. Two of the subjects stated they were in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Deputies charged two juvenile offenders with unlawful possession of marijuana and released them to the custody of their parents.

•Grand Island Boulevard, animal loose - A complainant stated a golden retriever was seen running loose in the area of a supermarket. Deputies were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.
