Niagara University has announced that Lori A. Soos, director of health services, has been selected as a recipient of the American College Health Association's (ACHA) Affiliate New Professionals Award for 2012.

The award, presented for the first time in 2002, recognizes ACHA members who have provided service to the field of college health for five years or less and who have made significant contributions to their institutions and/or affiliate.

"Lori is a dedicated and talented professional whose commitment to the university and health center, its patients and staff, is unparalleled," stated Dr. Kevin Hearn, NU's vice president for student affairs. "We are very pleased that the ACHA chose to recognize Lori with this prestigious award."

Soos will receive the award during the Awards and Fellows Dinner at the ACHA's 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago on May 30. ACHA acknowledges all award recipients in its member newsletter, on its website and in an awards program for dinner participants at the annual meeting. The website and program include a written citation and picture of this year's award recipients.

Soos, of Grand Island, is a previous recipient of the New York State College Health Association's Susan Shearer Award, presented to individuals who demonstrate leadership, dedication and vision for college health. Since joining NU in 2008, she has overseen numerous changes and improvements in health services while contributing to several other campus-wide initiatives, including the review and revision of the campus pandemic plan and the vice president's taskforce on alcohol and other drugs.
