Lew-Port wins opener in AAU Hockey NYS Tourney

The Lewiston-Porter JV club hockey Lancers opened the AAU Hockey JV NYS Tournament in Ithaca with a win Friday morning, topping the Wantagh/Seaport by a 10-2 score.

Goalie Ryan Lasky stopped 17 shots in the opening game victory for the Lew-Port JV Lancers.

Scott Meogrossi opened the scoring at 7:17 of the first period on a neat pass from Robert DiBacco. Joe Cecconi scored his first of two goals at 14:19 of the first, jumping into the rush with Joe DeMunda feeding the breakout pass.

The same two worked their magic 20 seconds later with Lew-Port taking a 3-0 lead into the second period.

Wantagh/Seaport opened the second period scoring at 6:36 with Tom Brolly scoring a power play goal with Chris Tussorello assisting. Brolly scored his second goal of the game 1:01 minutes later, unassisted.

Danny Hogan drilled the puck into the net at 8:21 off a pass from Cecconi, and the second period ended with Lew-Port leading 4-2.

The floodgates opened for Lew-Port at 2:41 of the third period with Mike Mokhiber scoring the first of six Lancer unanswered goals with Cecconi and Hogan dishing off the assists.

Pasha Kovtunov scored at 4:00 of the third, again with Cecconi assisting. Kovtunov rammed one home at 8:13 of the third on a tic-tac-toe play with Meogrossi and DeMunda assisting.

He then scored 13 seconds later off of a Wantagh player's skate to earn his natural hat trick.

Closing out the scoring for Lew-Port was Matt Schiavi off of a feed from Joe Laurendi and DeMunda off of a rebound of Schiavi's rebound.

Lew-Port plays Ithaca at 5 p.m. Friday - its second of three preliminary round games.
