Press release

The Buffalo Bicycling Club, one of Western New York's premier bicycle racing clubs, is proud to announce the launch of its Junior Development Team. The goal of this program is to introduce boys and girls, ages 14-18, to the sport of bicycle racing in the hopes of establishing a lifelong passion for the sport and to help promote healthy lifestyles.

In addition to the fun, skills and friendships that are developed by bicycle racing, athletes of various sports (such as hockey, cross country, track and field, swimming) find cycling to be excellent cross-training for their primary sport.

The Buffalo Bicycling Club will help young athletes get started with racing by providing guidance from certified coaches, as well as technical assistance and local opportunities for safe, supervised competition and training. For those riders who wish to travel to larger events, the group will offer aid with travel expenses.

Riders will need a working road bicycle that can stop quickly and shifts gears. A helmet that is in good condition and fits correctly is required for all racing and training events. Riders will need clothing to stay comfortable in all of the various weather conditions to be encountered during the riding season (April-November).

If interested, contact Robert Johnson at [email protected]. An organizational meeting will be held in the spring, and more information can be found at http://www.buffalobicycling.com/.

The Buffalo Bicycling Club seeks sponsorships and donations to help offset the costs associated with this program. Donations can be made by contacting the BBC president or online at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=14927.
