Jacobs warns Erie County homeowners of deed scam

Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs wants to caution all Erie County property owners to watch for misleading solicitations offering to sell you a "Certified Copy of Your Deed." These companies are dramatically overcharging for this service by upwards of $50. "If you receive one of these letters, or an email, website prompt, or other advertisement, you should ignore them. A certified copy of your deed is available from our office for the cost of copying," Jacobs said.

"The majority of homeowners have their original recorded deed in their possession," he said. "Deeds for every parcel of land in Erie County are public record and stored here in our offices. I encourage Erie County residents to check first with our office for any deed related questions."
