Niagara University has announced that Shawn P. Daly, Ph.D., P.E., has been named dean of its College of Business Administration following a nationwide search.

Daly comes to Niagara from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. He will assume his new position at Niagara on April 10 replacing Dr. Mark Wilson, who retired from NU last summer to enlist in the AmeriCorps.

In addition to his experience in higher education, Daly possesses a keen business sense, gleaned through numerous years of working in marketing, research and consulting. Prior to UIW, Daly worked in research and development engineering with a multinational chemical firm and managed the sales and marketing initiatives for an entrepreneurial laboratory instrument manufacturer. These duties included extensive travel and negotiation experience around the world, especially in Latin America and Europe.

"We are quite pleased to appoint someone of Dr. Daly's professional pedigree to lead our College of Business Administration," said the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., president of Niagara University. "His experience in business and academia is a very welcome addition to the Niagara University community."

In his new role at Niagara, Daly will be responsible for providing visionary, strategic and administrative leadership. He will be presented with an exceptional opportunity to build on the AACSB-accredited college's strengths, which include its student-centered approach, committed and collegial faculty and motivated, career-oriented students.

"Dr. Daly will provide the university with an invaluable resource, especially from an experiential learning perspective," added Timothy M. Downs, Ph.D., Niagara University's vice president for academic affairs. "We are constantly trying to immerse our students in real-life working situations and to bring on someone with Dr. Daly's business background will help us to achieve that goal."

The winner of two Fulbright scholarships (Kazakhstan and Mongolia), Daly has lectured extensively on medical tourism, business-to-business marketing and business education. Those engagements took him through much of Europe and Asia, including China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Romania and Finland. Daly has also taught numerous MBA courses in Bucharest, Romania and has lectured in other places around the world.

Two universities have selected Daly for awards of teaching distinction, and he has also published and presented over 50 papers, included one of the most commonly cited articles in the Journal of Marketing Education.

Along with serving as national vice chair of the teaching special interest group of the American Marketing Association, Daly is an active board member for the Alamo Heights Chamber of Commerce, the United San Antonio Federal Credit Union, the Ohio Learning Network and the Seneca Area Career System.  Daly also led two bond levy campaigns in support of public education as chair of the steering committee.

Daly earned a Ph.D. in international business from Temple University in Philadelphia. He also holds master's degrees from Loyola University, New Orleans (M.Ed. in Religious Education), Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. (MBA), and Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va. (M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering), which is where he also earned his bachelor's degree. His other teaching experience includes time at Villanova and Temple universities.
