It's nomination time for the 46th annual Citizen of the Year dinner.

The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce believes volunteerism is the foundation of a good community, and that Grand Island is blessed with many wonderful volunteers. Each year the chamber selects those businesses and individuals whose contributions have made Grand Island a better place to live, work or play. As volunteers in the community, they have gone the extra mile, taken the extra step, above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities and jobs.

Award recipients are nominated by letters from the community and chosen by the chamber's Citizen of the Year selection committee. The chamber is asking members of the community to think of the people they know or do business with and take a few minutes to nominate them.

The deadline for nominations is March 9. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce office (2257 Grand Island Blvd.) and in the soon-to-be delivered Grand Island phone book.

Suggested categories for nomination include business, businessperson, corporation, civic group, education professional, senior and community service. Special categories may be created depending on what outstanding recommendations are received.

The award recipients will be announced and then honored at the 46th annual Citizen of the Year Awards Dinner being held on Thursday, April 26, at the Holiday Inn Grand Island.

For more information, call the chamber office at 773-3651, or call this year's chairwoman, Liz Wilbert, at 983-7363. Provide an email address and the chamber will email a nomination form.
