Niagara University announces Stephanie Harmon, a junior majoring in hospitality and tourism management, recently received a pair of scholarships from the Club Managers Association of America. Harmon, a native of Huntsville, Ala., was awarded club management scholarships from CMAA's National Capital and New York state chapters.

"We are extremely proud of Stephanie as it is quite an honor to receive recognition from two of CMAA's most prominent chapters," stated Dr. Gary Praetzel, dean of NU's College of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Harmon spent last summer working as a supervisory and rotational intern at the platinum-rated Country Club of Rochester. She shadowed members of the kitchen, front desk and housekeeping departments, and sat in on board committee meetings. During her time at CCR, Harmon also planned and executed the club's annual lobster bake for members, and mastered casual service and member interaction while working at the club's pool snack bar.

"The Country Club of Rochester internship afforded me the opportunity to practice what I have learned at Niagara University while broadening my understanding of the club industry," Harmon said. "I look forward to using what I have learned in this internship throughout my junior year and in my third and final club internship."

"Stephanie did a great job for us this past summer," said Albert B. Antonez, CCM, CCE, general manager and C.O.O. of the Country Club of Rochester. "Students that graduate from NU are finding success across the country at premier platinum clubs. Their faculty advisor, Dr. William Frye, through class work, outside assignments, meaningful internships and an unwavering commitment to the students, has helped develop one of the best hospitality programs for club management in the country."

Niagara University's student chapter of the CMAA has been recognized as the Student Chapter of the Year in 2008-09 and 2009-10, and will find out in February if it will receive the award for the third consecutive year.
