The Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation Monday at its meeting in Town Hall recognizing a Grand Island Eagle Scout on the occasion of his Court of Honor.

The board honored Spencer-Jon Zukic, who was presented his Eagle badge from Troop 630 at the Grand Island Knights of Columbus Hall on Nov. 13.

Spencer-Jon, age 13, is the son of Anton and Jacqueline Zukic, and joined Cub Souting when he was 5 years old.

As a Life Scout in 2010, Zukic contacted Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9249 for a community project. Under his direction, more than 25 workers landscaped frontage, repaired and repainted flagpoles and posts, and filled back acreage with soil and seeded with grass, an undertaking that took 141 man hours to complete.

In 2009, Zukic became troop historian, assisting with the troop's website and updating past Eagle Scout projects. In 2010, he became assistant patrol leader for Troop 630.

Zukic has earned 31 merit badges. He is an honor roll student at Veronica Connor Middle School and is an active participant in three choir groups. He also is employed by Niagara Frontier Publications as a carrier.

Spencer-Jon's older brother, Travis, is also an Eagle Scout with Troop 630.

Also at the Town Board meeting:

The board appointed Jacqueline McGinty to a part-time position as code enforcement officer, effective Nov. 22.

The board set a public hearing for Monday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. to hear citizen comment on a proposal to establish Lighting District No. 62 in the Grand Park Vue subdivision.

Councilman Gary Roesch said Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick, who represents Grand Island in District 4 of the legislature, will hold a roundtable discussion at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 at Grand Island Memorial Library to discuss the Erie County budget.
