Students raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Lewiston-Porter Middle School students recently donated $1,333 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight to end breast cancer. Lead by the eighth-grade student council (shown left), students conducted several fundraising activities, including selling pink lollipops, pink bracelets, and organizing a "pink day" at school. The hallways at Lewiston-Porter Middle School also were decorated with pink snowflakes.
Students were inspired to rally for the cause when one of their teachers, Maureen Castiglione, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Castiglione is currently a special education teacher aide at Lewiston-Porter Middle School.
The Lewiston-Porter varsity softball team dedicated a game in honor of Castiglione. In addition, teachers at Lewiston-Porter formed a team named "Mama Moe" and participated in the Susan G. Komen WNY Race for the Cure on June 11, raising more than $3,500.
