Niagara County Community College President James P. Klyczek announced Jan. 19 the selection of Cannon Design for architectural and engineering services for the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Center. The announcement was made at the monthly NCCC Board of Trustees meeting held in the Robert Michael S'Dao Memorial Board Room in the Notar Administration Building on the college campus.

"We are happy to make the announcement of Cannon Design as the architectural and engineering firm as it brings us one step closer to the completion of this exciting project," said Klyczek." The cost of the design and engineering will be approximately $997,675, which includes all design and engineering services and consultants. This cost is variable, within a few percent depending on how the scope of the work is defined in relation to the public walkway still connected to the southeast corner of the property, exterior landscaping and lighting design, and our pursuit of LEED certification."

"This proposal review took some time as we read through 2,164 pages of material in proposals ranging from 41 to 178 pages. We looked at over 1,400 photos submitted by the 13 firms and the 55 consultants that were represented in the proposals. Firms had planned to engage as few as one consultant to as many as 10 consultants," said Klyczek. "Selfishly, the interviews were also helpful because we were able to open our doors to a number of firms we had not previously worked with, and many consultants, several of whom are local in Lockport, Lewiston and Niagara Falls. Besides the project right before us, the Student Housing Village Corporation Board is studying expansion of the student housing complex, the college is planning to finally complete the new entrance road from Route 31 near the baseball fields, and we hope to secure funding for the Learning Commons Project in the next year or so. So there is a lot of work on the horizon for us."

The completion of the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute and Hospitality and Tourism Center project is projected for the spring of 2012.
