Discusses how pharmacy services at NFMMC have evolved to improve patient care

Pharmacy Director Michelle Lewis of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center delivered an invited presentation at the December midyear clinical meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in Las Vegas.

This program was held as part of the management case study series and was titled "Transformation from a Dispensing Model to Patient-Centered Clinical Practice in a Small Urban Hospital." The discussion provided insight as to how pharmacy services at Memorial have evolved in recent years to improve patient care and satisfaction.

The objectives of the session included describing the methods and rationale used to implement a patient-centered pharmacy practice, describing how generational differences can affect the ability to initiate clinical services effectively at the departmental level, and discussing the benefits of increasing educational offerings and opportunities to staff through interactions with pharmacy residents and students.

The ASHP midyear clinical meeting is the largest gathering of pharmacists in the world. With its focus on improving patient care, the meeting is attended by more than 20,000 pharmacy professionals from 86 countries.
