The Niagara County Department of Health, in collaboration with the Department for the Aging, is offering two free workshops for people with chronic illnesses (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis or anxiety).

Workshops are conducted over a period of six weeks. The new chronic disease self-management program workshop series will begin on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Elderwood Independent Living, 100 Crestwood Court, Wheatfield; and Friday, Jan. 6, at Forestview Senior Center, 3959 Forest Parkway, North Tonawanda. Both run from 1-3:30 p.m.

The chronic disease self-management program has proven health benefits for individuals with ongoing health conditions, and augments medical care people receive from providers. Workshops provide simple steps to help people manage signs and symptoms of their diseases to promote active and fulfilling lifestyles and to feel better. Program instructors also invite caregivers to attend for learning, sharing and support.

To register for the free workshops, call the Niagara County Department of Health at 716-278-1900 or NY Connects through the office for the aging at 716-438-3030. If your group or organization is interested in hosting a workshop at your facility, call the nursing division at 716-278-1900.
