Wheatfield Blades 16U AA wins gold in Lake Placid

The Wheatfield Blades 16U AA team went 4-0-1 and defeated the Guelph Jr. Gryphons in the gold medal game on Oct. 30 to win the CAN-AM Challenge Cup in Lake Placid.

Trailing 1-0 midway through the third period of the gold medal game, Blades forward Adam Graff deflected a shot by defenseman Josh Rucci to tie the game. One minute later, forward Spencer Hrynczak scored the eventual game winner, assisted by defenseman and team captain Nick O'Brien.

Justin Helms was solid in goal for the Blades during the game and finished second overall in the tournament goaltender skills competition.
