Kelly's Country Store holds Fall Fest

Sat, Oct 15th 2016 07:00 am

Kelly's Country Store held its first-ever Fall Fest Oct. 8 and 9. The event included a petting zoo (pictured), a bounce house, face painting, and a food vendors and a farmers market. The old historic schoolhouse was open, with all original equipment.

Kelly's Country Store manager Amanda Diamond called the festival a "first annual" event.

"We hope to make it a yearly thing," Diamond said. "We'd like to get all the farmers market people here and get everybody's support."

Sean Kelly said the long-range goal is to have a full-time farmers market at Kelly's. Now that the Island has a bigger population, more than 20,000, it has the mass to support its own farmers market. Many Islanders still go to the old North Tonawanda farmers market, he pointed out, and he hopes a market at Kelly's will entice them to stay home on Grand Island for that farm produce.

Town Supervisor Nate McMurray called Kelly's Country Store "an important part of Grand Island for generations."

"In addition to Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, now we have pumpkins at Kelly's Country Store, too," McMurray said of the festival. "I think this is a great way to expand what happens here at Kelly's Country Store."

He said the festival, was great for children and families and Kelly's was a great place to celebrate the fall.

"This is my favorite time of year," McMurray said. "There's something about the fall, the way it feels, the way the colors look."

McMurray invited people to look inside the store. "It's a magical place," he said. "There's few places like Kelly's Country Store anywhere, and especially in Western New York."
