The Buffalo Museum of Science presents behind-the-scenes collection tours, hosted by the collections team, and offering the opportunity for guests to our research collections, special collections and teaching collections.

A significant portion of the museum's collection of over 700,000 specimens pertain to the Greater Niagara Region and form, by far, the most complete record of life in all of its forms in this area in anthropology, botany, entomology, mycology, paleontology and zoology. These pieces provide a good representation of the present and past natural history of the Niagara Frontier of New York and adjacent Ontario, as well as material of worldwide provenance of value in teaching, exhibition and research.

The Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences maintains three principal categories of collections: research collections, special collections and teaching collections.

The fall 2016 behind-the-scene collections tours will feature three different themes including:

The Pan American Exposition - the Buffalo Museum of Science's story: You might have heard about Buffalo's Pan American Exposition, but did you know that the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences played a significant role in the fair? Learn about the museum's role in the Pan Am, go behind-the-scenes and see the same artifacts that thrilled visitors over a century ago.
