The Youngstown Heritage Tours and Tourism Committee announces the final village walk for 2016 will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Tickets are required for the third annual Youngstown Haunting, as last year's cemetery tour and ghost talk exceeded expectations.

This event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Universal Cemetery at Church and Second streets. Local guides will take participants on a tour of the cemetery and introduce them to some of its more famous residents.

A program featuring "Victorian Mourning Customs" will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ontario House, 358 Main St.

"The Ontario House, a local inn and drinking establishment since 1840, home to some of Youngstown's ghosts, is the site for the evening's program. With so many Youngstown homes dating from the 1820s to the 1900s, the program will focus on how residents of the community handled the death of their loved ones," spokesperson Karen Noonan said.

Sensible walking shoes and a flashlight are recommended. All tours are free, though a voluntary donation will support the efforts of the Youngstown Heritage Tours and Tourism Committee. In the event of rain, the cemetery walk will be cancelled.

Both events are appropriate for children ages 10 and older. For reservations, call the Town of Porter Historical Society at 716-745-1271, or contact the YHTTC at [email protected].
