State Parks announce island waterfowl blind drawings

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced lottery drawings for the first half of waterfowl hunting season have been scheduled at Beaver Island State Park.

Draws will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the basement of the Beaver Island Clubhouse - beginning Oct. 21 and running through Dec. 2. The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the draws beginning at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Participants should enter through the back door of the clubhouse closest to parking lot No. 2. 

Duck season will run from Oct. 22 through Dec. 4, while goose season will run from Oct. 22 through Dec. 17.

Canada goose season (Dec. 5-17) will be call-ins only on Tuesdays and Fridays. Call-ins start on Friday, Dec. 2, by calling 716-773-2010 from 9 a.m. until noon.

To participate in the lottery drawings, hunters must be present and show a valid New York state small game hunting license with a signed duck stamp, proof of completion of a waterfowl ID course, and proof of registration in the harvest information program (HIP).

Three ADA-accessible blinds are included in the drawings. Blind No. 31 is located within Beaver Island State Park, while blinds Nos. 41 ad 42 are located on East River Road at Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area (north of the cemetery). Hunting at these locations is restricted to the wooden blind structure only.

Blinds will be available for the waterfowl youth hunting days on Oct. 1-2. The drawing will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in the basement of the Beaver Island Clubhouse. Visit www.dec.ny.gov for more information about the youth hunt.
